They sell the Mazda 6 sedan in the US. If they sell it in Canada I bet they wouldn't care if its was just a different version, its still the same model, safety and engine. There has to be some loophole for something like this.

They do care, unfortunately. Same model =/= same car as far as the regs are concerned. Show and display or hacking one together from a US 6 and a wagon from somewhere else (like what some folks have done with the g8 to get utes into the US) would be the only way to keep my racist anti-wagon uncle from finding and crushing her. :(

I am a boomer, and I like wagons. I've had two (Olds Custom Cruiser, Camry 5M). They don't know me very well. When I bought my '87 300D, I would have preferred 300TD - they were very difficult to find and dealers would not negotiate.

yeah similar model doesn't cover that, unfortunately. The body type has to be one that was crash tested. It specifically says "For example, if the original manufacturer manufactured both sedan and wagon body styles for the described model, but only certified the sedan for the U.S. market, the wagon body style would not be eligible for importation under that determination."
